In August 2001, the Government used UPDF soldiers to drive more than 2,000 people off their land in Madudu Sub-County, Mubende District. Later, Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) handed the land to a German investor to establish a coffee plantation. The investor has since established the Kaweri Coffee Plantation Ltd, a subsidiary of the Germany-based Neumann Kaffe Gruppe, one of the world’s largest coffee companies with similar projects in Kenya, Mexico, Brazil, Tanzania and El Salvador. Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda visited the plantation and promised that government is about to resolve the matter amicably.
It was a Tuesday of Oct /16/ 2018 when Emotions ran high as President Museveni toured a 75-acre land where hundreds of families were violently evicted and property worth millions of Shillings destroyed in Sekanyonyi-Lusanja Village, Kasangati Town Council, in Wakiso District. Angry residents reported to the President that last week, businessman Medard Kiconco, who claims to own the land, with the help of armed policemen and gangs, violently evicted them from the land where they have lived for decades and destroyed their household property. .
